The “Livre d’heures de René, duc d’Alençon” [Book of Hours of René, Duke of Alençon] is being kept in the Bibliothèque Municipal in Reims (France). It dates back to the period 1476–1492 and was made in Paris. 
Folio 62v shows the Adoration of the Magi. In the lower border a relatively big snail can be seen. It is stylised, the dextral shell is given a ribbed appearance with a protruding aperture, from which the slender animal reaches out; it has a humanised eye and only two tentacles.
