The “Livre d’heures de René, duc d’Alençon” [Book of Hours of René, Duke of Alençon] is being kept in the Bibliothèque Municipal in Reims (France). It dates back to the period 1476–1492 and was made in Paris. [1]

Folio 62v shows the Adoration of the Magi. In the lower border a relatively big snail can be seen. It is stylised, the dextral shell is given a ribbed appearance with a protruding aperture, from which the slender animal reaches out; it has a humanised eye and only two tentacles.
