One of the manuscripts in the Universitätsbibliothek in Heidelberg is about Aesop’s fables. It is in the Bibliotheca Palatina and dates back to ca. 1415. The manuscript is one of the many copies of “Der Edelstein”, a collection of fables written by Ulrich Boner, a Swiss monk .
Folio 001v shows an adler carrying a gigantic, highly stylised snail with a globose shell (difficult to see how the torsion is), the animal with two tentacles and an eye-spot; a crow is watching from the ground.
