One of the manuscripts in the Universitätsbibliothek in Heidelberg is about Aesop’s fables. It is in the Bibliotheca Palatina and dates back to ca. 1415. [1] The manuscript is one of the many copies of “Der Edelstein”, a collection of fables written by Ulrich Boner, a Swiss monk [2].

Folio 001v shows an adler carrying a gigantic, highly stylised snail with a globose shell (difficult to see how the torsion is), the animal with two tentacles and an eye-spot; a crow is watching from the ground.
