Louis Desprez (1799–1870) was a French sculptor who made mainly works for restorations of gothic churches. In the Musée de Picardie, Amiens one can find a sculpture entitled “L’ingénue ou la jeune fille au limaçon”. This work in marble was made in 1843.
Next to the right foot of the figure is a natural sized snail with a dextral shell. The animal has all four tentacles shown. This is likely modelled after a Helix species.
