This oil-painting is one of the works by Abraham Mignon (1640–1679) present in the collection of the Rijksmuseum Amsterdam. This work, “A bouquet overthrown”, was made during his Utrecht period (1660–1679).
In the shadows of the lower left corner, tucked away under the table, a snail is visible below the signature of Mignon. This Cepaea is very naturalistically illustrated, and has a dextral shell. It is the first snail seen in this series, which has been drawn upside down.
