Abraham Mignon painted this still life in the period 1670–1679 in Utrecht. It is now in the Minneapolis Instite of Arts, who claims an unknown provenance before the gift by Mr. Dayton . In the RKD database, however, New York traders are mentioned as previous owners .
In the foreground of the painting (i.e. in the lower part), three snails are positioned. All three are dextral specimens of Cepaea.
