Otto Marseus van Schrieck painted in 1662 “Stillleben mit Insekten ind Amphibien [Forest floor still life with insects and amphibians]”, currently in the Herzog Anton Ulrich Museum, Braunschweig [1]. Marseus van Schrieck (Nijmegen, c. 1614/1620 – Amsterdam, 1678) worked in Italy, France and England before he settled in 1657 in Amsterdam [2].

This painting, mostly in dark tones, has one snail hidden in the central upper part. It is a dextral Cepaea species.
