Of this oil painting by Otto Marseus van Schrieck is only a black and white picture available; this work, made between 1660 and 1669 in Amsterdam, is currently in the collection of the Statens Museum for Kunst, Copenhagen, where is kown under the title “A forest floor with a thistle, a snake, a lizard and butterflies” [1, 2].
In the central part of the painting a snail in side view, moving away from the viewer, can be seen. This is a dextral species of Cepaea.
