“La Bequéee” is the title of this oil painting on panel, signed “G. Gresly 1751”. This is the French painter Gabriel Gresley (1712-1756), for whom I could otherwise find no additional biographical data. This painting, in the Musée des Beaux-Arts in Dijon , is a mixture of portrait and still life.
A French variant of ‘the snail on the edge’ is seen in the foreground. The resolution is not high enough to show critical details, but this (dextral) shell looks like a Helix species.
