This oil painting on panel was made by Abraham Mignon in c. 1670 and was in the collection of Philippe duc d’Orléans, before it was transferred to the Musée du Louvre in 1797. It is entitled “Flowers in a crystal vase, pea stem, and snail”, and was made in the Utrecht period when Mignon collaborated closely with Jan Davidsz. de Heem [1, 2].
The snail is visible on the ledge, where it is upward directed. A clear example of a dextral Cepaea nemoralis specimen.
