An anonymous Japanese artist carved this pipe case in wood during the 18th century. It is now in the collection of the Musée des Beaux-Arts, Nancy, France [1].

The snail that is prominently present on one side of the case, has a dextral shell and a blackish animal. It looks quite natural, although only two tentacles can be seen. Species unknown as yet.
