In the collection of the Musée des Beaux-Arts in Chambéry, this oil painting was first thought to be made by Jan Frans van Son (1658-1718). However, it is now attributed to an anonymous 19th century artist .
The snail in this fruits still life is undoubtedly modelled after a Cepaea species (likely C. nemoralis), but this has been badly done. First, it is shown as a sinistral specimen (instead of dextral), and secondly the shell has been painted as flat instead as somewhat elevated.
