In the Departement des Arts Graphiques, Musée du Louvre, Paris, this small print is housed, made by an anonymous Flemish artist at the end of the 16th century. It is entitled “Soldat tenant un arc et une masse d’arme et un ange armé sur un escargot” .
Although the snail is hardly visible, it is clearly a variation on the earlier theme ‘knight v. snail’: a knight with an arrow and bow opposing a knight with a lance sitting on a snail.
