Auguste Bonnefoi (1813–1883), for whom I couldn’t readily find more biographical information, was a Belgian artist who painted this still life of flowers and fruits, now in the collection of the Bowes Museum . This oil paint on canvas has several elements which remind of the 17th century examples.
One of these is the snail, tucked away between some leaves of what seems like cabbage. The species is unidentifiable, but the shell seems dextral.
