“Two designs for a pendant with a satyr and an eagle; a bird in the left lower medallion, a snail at right.” This is the short description of the engraving made by Virgilius Solis, dated between 1530 and 1562, now in the British Museum [1].

The snail is a sinistral specimen, somewhat stylised, the shell with clearly demarcated growth striae, the last whorl widening, and the animal with only two tentacles shown.
