In 1639 Hans Bollongier made this flower still life, which is now in the collection of the Rijksmuseum Amsterdam [1]. Bollongier worked in the Dutch city of Haarlem between 1623 and 1672 [2].

In the foreground on the left a snail is visible near the edge of the table. Possibly a specimen of Cepaea hortensis (Müller, 1774); it is dextral.
