Cornelis de Heem (1631–1695) painted this fruit still-life, now in the Mauritshuis, the Hague. It is supposed to be made ca. 1670, but it is unknown where the artist lived during that period [1, 2].
The snail in this painting is not obviously present, but may be seen in the lower centre next to the orange peel. The Cepaea shell has been painted in nearly the same colour, and the snail is seemingly floating in the air.
