Nearly 100 years ago, this print was made by an anonymous Italian artist during the 1st World War. The title reads: “I proverbs e la guerra: Che va piano, va sano… [literally: Proverbs and War: Those who go slowly go healthy]”. This post card is now in the collection of Kharbine Tapabor, Paris [1]. The French translation has the last word as “sûrement [surely, certainly]”, and a liberal translation might read as ‘Those who go slowly go steadily’.

Premiere guerre mondiale

The snail is stylised, the aperture and animal body inaccurate and the shell sinistral.
